An Adaptive Overflow Technique for B-trees

We present a new overrow technique for B-trees. The technique is a hybrid of partial expansions and unbalanced splits. This technique is asymmetric and adaptive. Considering a growing le (only insertions), the storage utilization is 77% for random keys, 70% for sorted keys, and over 75% for non-uniform distributed keys. Similar results are achieved when we have deletions mixed with insertions. ...

Splitting trees

Splitting a tree is defined as removing all edges of a chain and disconnecting one from the other edges incident with that chain. Splitting a forest is simultaneously splitting each of its non-trivial trees. The splitting number a(T) of a tree T is the minimum number of successive forest splittings which lead to deletion of all of T’s edges. An O(N) algorithm is proposed to get an upper bound c...

Boosting trees for clause splitting

We present a system for the CoNLL shared task the clause splitting problem Our ap proach consists in decomposing the clause split ting problem into a combination of binary sim ple decisions which we solve with the Ada Boost learning algorithm The whole problem is decomposed in two levels with two chained decisions per level The rst level corresponds to parts and presented in the introductory do...

Subjectivity: A Case of Biological Individuation and an Adaptive Response to Informational Overflow

The article presents a perspective on the scientific explanation of the subjectivity of conscious experience. It proposes plausible answers for two empirically valid questions: the 'how' question concerning the developmental mechanisms of subjectivity, and the 'why' question concerning its function. Biological individuation, which is acquired in several different stages, serves as a provisional...
